Well it all started when I was about four or five years old (1994).Around the time I was in my home country, I would spend countless amount of hours riding around with my father. We would listen to the radio and I would sing along with all the songs on the radio. My mother and father would sit and listen to me sing and say "one day you will be a great musician". As a child I knew nothing but sounds and the endless collaboration it held with everything around me.
I would spend nights listening to my uncles drink while beating on a bucket, using spoons in an empty bottle and clapping hands to sing random songs, they would make these songs up just to create a comical atmosphere for everyone around. It always seemed to arouse a strong sense of purpose for me. Soon I would find myself doing my chores and walking to school with a empty can and using my pencil to make sounds and try to replicate this with my friends. This began to open me up to an even deeper curiosity of "how does this actually work","what else can I use to make this constantly repeat". Not too long after I began going to America (Brooklyn, New york) and then tragedy strikes (1996). This would have been a life changing event
At the age of seven yrs old (1997) I was in a bad accident and it caused death to nearly run away with my life but lucky enough I was able to live. From that moment I began to leap forward with the musical talent that I had. I was released from the hospital at eight and half yrs old, I immediately began picking up on all kinda of instruments. For some reason I was able to look and automatically see how the instruments was being played and the sounds became apart of my ears.I continued to follow my passion and it began to grow.
By the time I was nine yrs old (1999) I was already playing four different instruments. I advanced way faster then anyone my age. Things began to progress at a very fast rate. I found myself in situations which felt as if I was being tested or put threw a trail and for some reason is always over came it at a very fast rate. The next step happened at the age of ten I would be going threw intense practice and still in school, I would practice four instruments a day for one hour each then continue with my school work.
The Moment He Knew
WHEN DID YOU KNOW THIS WAS YOUR CALLING?
You see as time progressed i remember i was twelve yrs of age (2002) and i was now graduating public school and moving on to middle school. There I was a art major learning and exploring the intricate foundation of art and its entire ways of expression. This created a profound need to expand with everything I could get my hands on, sounds became my guide for the instruments and the pen/pencil became my guide for the paper. No matter what situation I was in I found myself splashing inner parts of myself into the artistic venture. There is where I would have met a friend of mine who became like a brother to me. We became partners in crime sort of speak, my friend and I would begin drawing, creating comic books, dancing (break dancing etc.),traveling as young kids and eventually music.
This is where the journey truly began, I remember we where in my house I was playing video games and he came into the room and said "hey listen to this song". He performed the lyrics and thought it was someone who was already known because I had introduced him to reggae music. He began to explain that the lyrics was his own and he wrote the song in the living room. This is where the pot began to turn. Approximately one yr later (2003) he started pushing the idea into my head that I would be a good artist, his words exactly was "you have the style, the looks, the popularity and the lifestyle". It took me awhile to even begin to give it life in my head. I always thought that life was never for me.
Time presented itself again where I would muster up the courage to actually try to make my first song and to my surprise it worked. I found myself being accepted every where and everyone start to acknowledge the rest of my artistic ways. This newly found skill became the pinnacle of our friendship we spent countless hours recording on computer mic with the standard program called "record" on a dell computer. No matter what we always found ways to try to advance our skills this was in (2003). We turned 14 and now we on to bigger ventures with all of our talents and skills.
We began traveling from studio to studio trying to find the right sound and the right place to help us elevate this thing we called a career. before we knew it we found our self going to stage shows and taking on small crowds. We became the the talk of our neighborhood. (2004-2005) became the year we knew this was for us. Together we where unstoppable and we where being recognized in many places as a dual show. We where picked up by a recreation center called Crown Height Recreation center, There is where we would find Chen Lo who would help us hone our skills and open us out the a bigger crowd.
In the yr of (2006) we decided we need to gain payment for our work so we started selling "Cd's. This boosted our profits a lot and gave us enough money to find bigger studios and before we knew it we landed in daddies house ( puff Daddys) record label. This was a great experience for us because then we actually felt as if this would begin to grow into something worth wild. Then (2007) came and opportunities for small shows and local venues was calling, we had fun as newbies trying to create a name for ourselves. This opened many doors for us, but as high school kids obviously we would get caught up in many things that didn't need to happen.
The Journey
WHAT WHERE SOME OF YOUR EXPIRENCES ON THE JOURNEY?
As popularity grew with us so did the demand for our music. This would then lead to us recording more and more and building more and more fans along the way. At this time things seemed to be at its best but before we knew it high was coming to an end I was already dancing on a local tv show called "BCAT on a show called flew in Brooklyn (2008). Not to long after I was arrested and I was locked up on Riker's island for a year and three months. During this period of time my music and my name turned info a up Roar in the local area and across the internet. While I was there I had a lot of uplifting experiences and learned many lessons but still had fun.
Upon my release (2009) I never forget it I was set free and given a metro card I made my way home and got home around six in the afternoon. My friends where excited to see me and my best friend at the time comes to my house forty minutes later and says to me "get dress we gotta go". I was extremely curious as to what he meant but he told me we had a show to do. I got dressed and went to do the show, from there it was show after show and crowd after crowd. We where rising faster then ever.
During our ascension in (2009) I also began my first year in college. I got all my close friends into the college I was in. This too, was an amazing experience that pushed me further along the musical journey. In (2010) my first music video was released "Bounce To Di Riddim", Not long after in (2011) I released my first album titled "Rising Star" and my next song "Bun Badmind". Soon after I received my first interview with melody ENT. They promoted me all across west Africa and in Jamaica as well. Eventually as time went by I continued to create more music and released at least four songs a month.
During this time a(2012-2015) I went threw major growth sequences and many stage shows and private parties where being done at the time. At this time I was also traveling into other countries to promote my music as well.My friend that I started doing music with got signed to a record label and then abandoned me and everyone who supported us. I was heavily scrutinized because of this abandonment but I continued pushing forward with music until I created a song called "DONT WALK AWAY". This song helped propel into many other genres as well such as "HIP HOP","SOCA","POP","RNB" and "DANCEHALL".
My father passed away and then the year of (2015-2016) was extremely rough for me but perseverance became the key. In (2016-2017) became a very strong year because the songs and the quality of the music increased dramatically. I released many songs such as "LET ME KNO","HOLD ON","PREROGATIVE","YUNG NANKHAR". During (2018-2019) I tried to host a meeting with Atlantic records and gain as much info as I could which was pretty difficult but it was obtainable. In the year of (2020) I was supposed to go on tour but covid had other plans. Instead I went ahead and began shooting more music videos which can be viewed on my YouTube and Vevo channel.
